Hackaday wrote about our experiment turning a OnePlus 6 (8 ARM cores, 8 GB RAM) into a tiny NixOS machine. The piece ran July 17, 2025: 8-Core ARM Pocket Computer Runs NixOS.
The setup is a Mobile-NixOS flake on top of PostmarketOS, so the phone runs the same configuration we use on desktop: same shell, same packages, same dotfiles. Hardware support is incomplete (4G and the rear camera are not working yet) but the foundation is in place.
The goal is a single NixOS config running across our desktops and the phone in our pocket.
